ANIP Experience
As an ANIP intern you will undertake a policy-focused research project for which you will receive academic credit at your university. An ANIP internship is not work experience or unpaid office support.
The major focus of the ANIP placement is the completion of a research report (4,000-20,000 words depending on the program). Interns also have the opportunity to engage with a range of other workplace activities depending on their host organisation.
Your area of research will be negotiated and agreed with the placement host. Recent interns have explored the following topics:
- Cultural Sector / Heritage
- Defence / Security
- Economy / Trade
- Environment
- Global Development
- Health / Social Policy
- Indigenous
- International Relations
- Languages
- Law
- Migration
- Rural and Regional Development
Research reports written by ANIP students have been used in debates in the Commonwealth Parliament, the International Court of Justice, diplomatic discussion and policy briefings, and some have been published in leading academic journals.
In addition to their placement, interns attend course workshops focused on policy research and professional skills.
