Jessica Apolinar, ANIP '19
My ANIP internship has been a rewarding and worthwhile experience. It has provided me with further employment opportunities, valuable experience and connections, and the chance to work on an interesting project that is so close to home.
Jessica undertook her ANIP internship in semester 2 this year placed in the ACT Legislative Assembly.
‘Even having been born and raised in Canberra, I never thought that I’d have the opportunity to observe and be a part of policy development in the ACT,’ says Jessica. ‘During my internship I researched and developed a business case for a policy idea to help growth and development in Tuggeranong. The research project pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone. It challenged me to think broadly and opened my mind to topics that I hadn’t considered before. Most importantly, it helped me to grow and refine my writing, communication, management and problem solving skills in a way that only this kind of experience can provide.’
Jessica speaks highly of her internship experience, saying that it enabled her to meet some of the most passionate and interesting people who are experts in their field. She learned a lot about a range of topics, from the history of ACT government to the importance of higher education to developing and managing a university campus. Upon completion of her placement, Jessica was offered a job by her host.
